Yes, the ongoing series of 1m19sec videos continues. We posted the <a href="http://www.thepuppetbox.com/pages/?p=272">original</a> and then <a href="http://www.thepuppetbox.com/pages/?p=282">Mark’s hardcore rap version</a> and now John’s melancholy acoustic version along with a disturbing and economical video. Still to come are versions from Chris and Katie. See John whore himself for art&#8230;I mean Puppetbox:<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Our huge 1m19s video project has garnered press from around the world. Described as “the Julie and Julia of the post geek synth rock world,” by the Des Moines Expectorant and “במהלך מתקפת השימוש מוסיקה וידאו,” by an Israeli blogger —the 1m19s project is pleased to present installment # 2 of 5.<br />
<br/br><br />
This submission comes from Mark J. Annotto, our drummer. Traditionally, drummers aren’t truly part of a band and are replaced like Brita filters after they get crusty and taste like charcoal. But Mark has a few tricks up his sleeves and he demonstrates here that music should never be limited to the notes or the song. This piece harkens back to the days of the Beastie Boys’ near stranglehold on white boy rap, but with a post-modern flare.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Out of some 50+ nominated bands, Puppetbox was in the top 10 for Best Independent Artist of 2009. We promised that if we made it through to the final rounds of voting we would provide you, the ardent Puppebox devotees, brand-spanking-new videos. So, here is #1 in a series of 5. First, however, let&#8217;s give you some background.<br />
<br/br><br />
Back when Puppetbox was a nascent and formless being, swimming through the primordial ooze of Brooklyn indie rock, we wanted to make a music video. We had no experience or business making a music video and even then we realized no one watched them. But, we thought, we should do this as an experiment and we should pick something short to try it out on.<br />
<br/br><br />
It just so happens that we used to play a song that, exhibiting a staggering lack of imagination, was titled <strong>1m19sec</strong>. This was due to the fact that it was exactly 1 minute and 19 seconds long. Get it? It is a really short song. Below is the video we made for it to give you an idea of the original.<br />
<br/br><br />
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" width="425" height="344" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="src" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6bVDLHPy5UU&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" /><embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="490" height="409" src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6bVDLHPy5UU&amp;hl=en&amp;fs=1&amp;" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object><br />
<br/br><br />
Now, the fun part. The forthcoming project involves each band member (John, Katie, Mark, and Chris) making their own personal version of the song and then shooting their own video to go along with it. It is great way to &#8220;get-to-know&#8221; the individual band members because we all interpreted the song in vastly different ways. Not to give anything away, but there are accordions, ill-beats, and tender emotions evoked in these versions.<br />
<br/br><br />
Please stay tuned over the next month or so as we release each song and video for your educational and childish enjoyment.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>BIG NEWS:<br />
<br/br><br />
Puppetbox has been nominated for Best Independent Artist of 2009 by Internet Radio Magazine. This is both exciting and a great deal of pressure. I mean, 2009 is only just over halfway done. What if we are the worst artists the 2nd half of the year? But we won&#8217;t be. We&#8217;re awesome and now is the time to assert our awesomeness.<br />
<br/br><br />
So, here&#8217;s the catch. You guys have to help vote for us at <a href="http://www.internetradiomagazine.com/biavote/">http://www.internetradiomagazine.com/biavote/</a><br />
<br/br><br />
It makes you sign up with Jango &#8211; which is actually a pretty cool site for finding music and doesn&#8217;t send you crap. Now, we understand that Puppetbox might not be the only music you listen to, and that indie bands are always pleading for support in some dumb contest. So here is what we&#8217;ll offer you in return for your vote: <strong>New videos!!</strong><br />
<br/br><br />
That&#8217;s right, for every stage of the contest we pass, you the motivated fan will get a new Puppetbox video.<br />
<br/br><br />
These could include but are not limited to:<br />
- John shaving his beard from whence all his power is derived<br />
- Katie playing her accordion while wearing only a baguette<br />
- Mark supporting the beastie boys&#8217; fight against cancer with a rap video and a mustache<br />
- Chris playing the accordion wearing only a croissant<br />
<br/br><br />
So go vote, damnit! <a href="http://www.internetradiomagazine.com/biavote/">http://www.internetradiomagazine.com/biavote/</a></p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Although we have been told that albums are dead, no one ever buys CDs, the music industry’s future is based on Web 2.0 user generated technologies and all music will be created on the forthcoming iGuitar from Mac – we have made an album.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>Yes, complete with cover art and a case that has things you can hold, like a CD.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>Now maybe this is a grievous error and a waste of time and money; but it also looks pretty cool and sounds almost as good. While the music was done completely by Puppetbox – the art and layout had the help of a number of talented people.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>So, I know a lot of folks ask this question but what do you, the devoted Puppetbox fan, think of CDs vs. digital only releases? Do you enjoy the extra info and design that comes with an album? Does the idea of vinyl excite you or confuse you?
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>Also, after much debate, research and even a bout of fisticuffs – we cryptically decided on a self-titled album. It is tempting to post the alternate titles we came up with, but…no. We still have our dignity.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>You may be wondering when the public will first get a chance to hear/see/experience this work of art and the definitive answer is – it is up to iTunes. Yes it is true. Regardless of when the CD is physically available, there seems to be little point in “releasing” it until people can find it online.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>If you are one of those people interested in online distribution – not everyone can have the luxury of being Radiohead. For bands that have no label backing or trust funds, there is almost always the need for a third party to be involved.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>We use CDbaby for our distribution and they do a pretty good job of making the CD available for purchase. They also distribute the music to many digital download outlets such as iTunes. However, not having any kind of backing means 1) everyone takes and, 2) We are at the mercy of outlets as to when they post our music. We probably have lost most of you at this point, but again we are asking for input.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>Is there a better way to get our CD to people and provide the option of downloads while not losing money?
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>Even selling everything directly from our website means setting up a “store” which is not free, and of course neither is shipping, as all you people in Europe who got the EP know.
<p>
<br/></p>
<p>Ok, we are not expecting answers to all these questions, although that would be awesome, but it gives you a look into the secret workings of Puppetbox and probably a lot of other bands stuck in this bizarre era of music.
<p>
<script type="text/javascript"> var gaJsHost = (("https:" == document.location.protocol) ? "https://ssl." : "http://www."); document.write(unescape("%3Cscript src='" + gaJsHost + "google-analytics.com/ga.js' type='text/javascript'%3E%3C/script%3E")); </script> <script type="text/javascript"> try { var pageTracker = _gat._getTracker("UA-5449202-1"); pageTracker._trackPageview(); } catch(err) {}</script></p>
